SHERCO PLUS

How do you take a great game and make it better?  You use the wisdom and technology of the last fifty years to re-define the base game engine and bring the game into the 21st Century!

When SherCo Classic was invented, many of the stats we now take for granted didn't exist or, if they did, they were not available to the public in any year-end statistics publications.  As a result, we thought long and hard about how to change the game system back in 2017.

We'd just brought what would become SherCo Classic back after a brief hiatus, and it didn't seem fair to our long-time customers, as well as the new customers who had just discovered us, to re-design the original game and make everything else obsolete.  So, we started from scratch, keeping the gridded stadium charts, stop-action system, and almost everything that made SherCo Classic so unique.  We simply changed the "base" of the game and, with it, the batter and pitcher rating systems.  And while we were at it, we changed the pitching system.

What do we mean by the "base" of the game?  In SherCo Classic, the dice are read with the lowest die read first.  Thus, a roll of 1-2 or a roll of 2-1 is read as "12".  This gives you just 21 possible combinations (Base-21).  All charts were set to Base-21 results ... every main chart had 21 reading, etc.  However, with SherCo PLUS, we flipped the switch and read the darker-colored die first ... so a roll of red 1, white 3 is "13", but red 3, white 1 is read as "31".

This gives us 36 possible combinations (Base-36) ... and with more combinations, we could fine-tune batting and pitching ratings to be more "accurate" in terms of replicating player performance.  And because batting average allowed by pitchers is now available, we could rate batters on the batting average they hit, and pitchers on the batting average they allowed others to hit.

This allowed us to assign BB-K ratings to BOTH batters and pitchers by introducing the Pitcher Control Number that determines who controls the at bat and gets to use their personal BB, K, and Probable Hit Numbers to determine the outcome of the at bat.

Chart results now have 36 possible readings.  And we've added more variables as pitcher and batting letter ratings (still used, but in a different way) can change the outcome from the result charts.

SherCo PLUS is the game that SherCo Classic would have been had the data been available at the time Classic was invented.  Both games are great in their own ways, and we feel that neither surpasses the other in fun ... to us, it feels a lot like a certain fried chicken place ... where both the classic recipe and the "plus" recipe are still great ways to enjoy chicken ... so it is with SherCo ... whether you like it original or extra accurate ... you'll enjoy playing both Classic and Plus!
