S.L.O.B.S. (SherCo Leagues Of Baseball Simulation)

Back in 1982, SherCo introduced a new "club" that customers could belong to called the SherCo Leagues Of Baseball Simulation (S.L.O.B.S. or, as we called it, SLOBS).  For your $15, you were made a member of the club and received a certificate of membership, a coupon good for any future SherCo purchase, and the core rulebook of SLOBS.

What is SLOBS?  Well, it's a system devised by Steve LeShay and his lifelong tag-team SherCo partner, Stephen Patrick, to allow players the ability to create their own career-continuum leagues without the need to wait for next year's real-life player ratings.  Owners of SLOBS could use the built-in re-rating system with leagues initially created from real-life players or, they could use the whole package and create entire leagues from thin air.

With SLOBS, when using fictitious players, each player starts with the same base rating for batters, and the same base ratings for pitchers.  In a league's initial season, each team receives a number of points, which are then used to "buy" additions to the base ratings, like HR numbers, speed stars, improve their letter rating, etc.  There are limits as to how many additional ratings you can buy.  For example, you can buy HR ratings up to 14, but no higher, or have a K number not higher than 16.

How you spend your points determines how good your team can be.  You can spend almost everything on one #A14 stud ,,, but the rest of the lineup will be weak.  You basically play the role of GM and manager, building the best team possible while having a couple points left over to spend on next year.

At the end of each season, all players are re-rated according to SherCo's formulas, with certain limits placed on players based on usage during the season (this way, that guy who went 2-for-3 pinch-hitting doesn't become Babe Ruth!)  Players come and go; they get better or regress ... all based on the dice on your tabletop.  You'll see star players develop, then fade over time as the rules also include an aging system that slowly takes away that which you spent many seasons building up.

SLOBS allows you to immerse yourself in a baseball universe where nothing is certain until the dice are rolled.  You create and name the players, set the lineups, build you stadiums, and play!

SLOBS is available in both Classic and PLUS versions so you can enjoy the league-creation regardless of which version you own and play.  Note that the Classic SLOBS rules are not compatible with PLUS, and vice versa.
